In my experience playing the list of games from the provided website, all the games I tried out were completely unknown to me and my first time playing them. The list of games I played were: “The only level”, “Jurassic Heart”, “Super Puzzle Platformer”, “Oregon Trail”, “QWOP”, and “Auntiepixelante”. These games all were interesting in their own ways, by level design, concept, and narrative. These games were played 5-20 minutes each to give each game a chance for me to understand and learn the game. The two games I believe to have great connection with each other is “The only level” which stays in the same platform yet different layouts. The other game i chose is “Super Puzzle Platformer”, because of the repetitious nature of the game.
The comparison of the two games might not look similar at all, but the mechanics shows their similarities when individuals play them. First, the game called “ The only level” I played was a platformer, where you control an elephant and help it across the map, from one side to the next. The mechanics in this game mainly uses the directional buttons and in some cases the mouse buttons. The controls change the way you control the mouse every level up and it counts every death in the session. The next game is the “Super Puzzle platformer” is a game where you control a square shaped character, having the main object of moving and firing at platforms falling from the ceiling. The player is in charge of the characters movements and decisions. I chose these two games due to the mechanics having the same objective of their levels and their difficulty could be even. The level design does not change in both games as well.
Thirdly, the game I chose was the “Oregon Trail” game where the objective was to survive the trip to California. This game was definitely foreign to me due to the mechanics and objectives that I have to deal with. Starting with supplies, ammos, etc were present in this game and that was the dealbreaker for me. It is a very long duration game only if the player is serious. In the end all my passengers and I died during the trip to California.
